He/Him · Tampa, Florida, United States

Thomas Pepin, better known as Tom Pepin, is a Tampa Bay business leader and philanthropist whose work has influenced commerce, education, healthcare, and public safety throughout the region for more than four decades. Formerly President and CEO of Pepin Distributing Company. Throughout his career, he focused on building a successful business while also ensuring that the company remained actively involved in supporting the community. Tom Pepin returned to Florida after graduating from Middlebury College in Vermont. After completing his education, he joined Pepin Distributing Company and began learning the family business's operations. In 1986, he purchased the company from his father and started guiding the organization into its next stage of growth. Under his leadership, the company expanded into one of Florida’s largest beverage distribution businesses. Over time, it developed into an enterprise valued at about $260 million and became a key distributor for major beverage manufacturers. The company earned a reputation for disciplined operations, reliable service, and strong relationships with partners and customers. While expanding the business, Thomas also emphasized the importance of community engagement. Pepin Distributing regularly supported nonprofit groups, civic organizations, and initiatives that assist first responders. By integrating charitable giving into the company’s identity, he helped establish a culture where business success also supported local development. Through this initiative, numerous nonprofit groups have held events that have raised substantial support for their programs. By providing a reliable, accessible venue, the center helps organizations focus on their missions rather than on event logistics. This approach reflects his belief that philanthropy should create opportunities for others to succeed. Education has also been an important focus of his work. When several families approached him about students struggling in traditional classroom environments, Thomas family helped support the creation of Pepin Academies. These public charter schools were designed to serve students with learning differences such as dyslexia and ADHD. For more than twenty-five years, Pepin Academies has helped thousands of students through individualized education programs that encourage confidence, accountability, and personal growth. The schools provide a structured learning environment that supports students who benefit from specialized educational approaches. Healthcare has been another area where he has contributed significant support. Through the Pepin Heart Institute, Thomas has helped fund cardiovascular research, patient care, and public education about heart health. These programs work alongside leading medical institutions in the region to improve care and expand awareness of cardiovascular conditions. His efforts in healthcare philanthropy earned recognition as Healthcare Philanthropist of the Year. Public safety has also remained a consistent part of his community involvement. Tom has supported initiatives connected to the Tampa Police Department Chief's Foundation and other law enforcement programs. These efforts focus on officer wellness, family assistance, and community outreach programs that strengthen trust between law enforcement and residents. His support in this area was recognized when he received the Tampa Police Department Citizen of the Year award and was named the twentieth Lightning Community Hero. After selling Pepin Distributing Company, Thomas entered a new phase focused on long-term stewardship of family resources and philanthropic initiatives. To support this work, he established Tapper Ventures and the Pepin Family Office. These organizations coordinate investment strategies, philanthropic planning, and long-range decision-making related to the family’s projects and commitments. Several public institutions and organizations have recognized his work. In 2017, he was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame for his leadership and civic involvement. The Florida Senate has acknowledged his contributions to community service on several occasions. The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners also honored him for decades of civic commitment. In 2023, Temple Park was renamed in recognition of the Pepin family’s contributions to the city. Those who know him describe him as steady, thoughtful, and loyal to the relationships he builds. His career reflects long-term dedication rather than sudden recognition. Through business leadership, educational support, healthcare initiatives, and civic involvement, Thomas Pepin has contributed to many parts of the Tampa Bay community, and his lasting impact continues to support the region today.
