Juggling With Julia

Hi! Thanks for checking out my blog. I’m Julia -- though Julie to most everyone who knows me. I am a registered dietitian committed to raising my three kids to have an adventurous palate, a foodie soul, and the ability to make healthy choices when they’re on their own. The best way I know to do that is to show them through the meals I provide. Simple, right? I’m a DIETITIAN, for goodness sake, with more letters after my name than any one person should have. I’ve GOT THIS! Um, no I don’t. Like everybody else, I’ve got a lot going on. Being a parent, employee, taxi driver, caregiver, athlete, volunteer, and head chef tends to eat up the meager 24 hours allotted to me each day. Workouts get skipped. Meals are thrown together last minute. How can I make it all work without making myself crazy? I am learning to juggle. For instance, I’d love to be a better cook. However, being the under-ambitious overachiever that I am, I’m not willing to spend any more time in the kitchen than is necessary. So, I go for tried-and-true recipes that I get from food bloggers, family and friends. Follow my blog as I try new recipes, wax philosophic on the pros and cons of the crockpot, and profess my love for semisweet chocolate chips. My Nutrition and Health Philosophy 1) Listen to your body. Feed it when it’s hungry, and stop feeding it when it’s full. Rest it when it’s tired, and move those muscles every day. 2) Enjoy your food. Eat what you like, indulge in moderation, and try new things once in a while. 3) Open fewer packages. Fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, whole grains, low fat dairy, and high-quality proteins are the foundations for a wholesome diet. 4) Break a sweat. Plenty of research shows that physical activity brings plenty of benefits, from weight control, to stress reduction, to a stronger body less prone to chronic disease. Get moving a few times a week, and your body will thank you!
