Jason Jaacks is a documentary photographer, filmmaker and writer. Before transitioning to freelance, he operated camera for CBS4 News in Denver, Colorado. He has since worked for PBS NewsHour and Frontline and the New Mexico Office of the State Historian. As a freelance filmmaker, Jason has collaborated with SITE Santa Fe, Lannan Foundation, and the Santa Fe Art Institute. As a photographer, he has worked on several long-term projects with the diverse groups of the American Southwest, including “Two Halves of the Same Heart”, an exhibition examining the effects of the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border on the Tohono O’odham, an indigenous group living on both sides of the border. As an instructor, Jason has assisted in media-making workshops in South Africa, rural New Mexico and on the Tohono O’odham Nation in Arizona. He is the Executive Director of Cordillera Productions, a production company specializing in documentary short films, new media production and documentary photography. Jason holds a B.A. in Documentary Studies from College of Santa Fe. He currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
