Desde el año 2000, motivado por potenciar nuevas formas de relación socioambientales que contrarresten la crisis ambiental en la que está sumido el planeta, el músico Eric Daniel Sánchez de la Barquera, diseña y propone el proyecto Orquesta Mitote: la basura de unos… la riqueza de otros!!!, uniéndose a la propuesta la ambientóloga Rosana Suárez en el año 2009.

Orquesta Mitote, a través de la aplicación social del arte, combinando ecología, música y teatro, y rescatando la memoria colectiva, educa y sensibiliza a las comunidades sobre la importancia del medio ambiente en el desarrollo, así como de la reintegración del hombre a la naturaleza, facilitando herramientas para responder a la lógica del capital que no respeta los límites de carga y tiempos de regeneración de los sistemas ecológicos y que hace del consumo irracional de bienes su supervivencia.

Mitote tiene entre sus objetivos sensibilizar a la población sobre valores fundamentales para la convivencia y la construcción de una ciudadanía global, asentada en la solidaridad, la justicia e igualdad, en donde el respeto al medio ambiente se entiende fundamental en la transformación de las relaciones humanas. Su fin es poner el arte al servicio de la comunidad, usándolo en su modalidad de aplicación social, convirtiéndolo en una herramienta educativa para la transmisión y construcción de valores sociales y ambientales.

Mitote se ha realizado en México, Japón, Uruguay, Canadá, España, Colombia, Austria e Italia. Y cuenta con diversos premios y reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales, entre ellos:

a) El presidente de la república mexicana Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, en 2011 otorgó a Orquesta Mitote el Premio Nacional al Mérito Ecológico, máxima distinción en materia ambiental en México.

b) Durante 2009 y 2010 es seleccionado por la Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos y la Secretaría de Educación Pública para desarrollar nuevos Mitotes en zonas de violencia extrema en México.

c) Invitado como miembro fundador de la Red Arte y Sociedad, especializada en aplicaciones sociales del arte, en España 2008.

d) El Fideicomiso de Cultura United States-Mexico le otorga el premio Coming Up Taller 2004, y clasifica a Mitote como uno de los 10 proyectos más originales e innovadores de ese concurso.

e) El Consejo de la Música Mexicana (COMUS), miembro del Consejo Internacional de la Música de la UNESCO (CIM), selecciona a Mitote como la propuesta representante de México para el Coloquio Internacional sobre la Diversidad Musical, en Uruguay en 2003. Y también para el Foro Panamericano de Educación Musical y la Tribuna Musical de América Latina y el Caribe, México 2002.

f) Mitote obtiene el Premio Nacional de Educación por el Arte 2001, otorgado por el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y el Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes.

Since 2000, motivated by promoting new forms to counteract the environmental crisis engulfing the planet, musician Eric Daniel Sánchez de la Barquera, design and propose the Mitote Orchestra project: Trash for some… wealth for others!!!¨ joining the proposal the environmentalists Rosana Suarez in 2009.

Mitote Orchestra, through the social application of the arts (music and theater), combining with ecology and rescuing the collective memory, promotes awareness to communities about the importance of environment in the development and the reintegration of man to nature, providing tools to respond to the logic of capital that does not respect the limits of loading and regeneration times of ecological systems and makes of the irrational consumption of goods its way to survive.

The Mitote´s objective is to sensitize the population on basic values for living and building a global citizenship, founded on solidarity, justice and equality. Where respect for the environment its fundamental to understand the transformation of human relations. Its purpose is to bring art to the community service, using it in its social application form, making it an educational tool for the transmission and construction of social and environmental values.

Mitote has been done in Mexico, Japan, Uruguay, Canada, Spain, Colombia, Austria and Italy. And has several awards and national and international awards, including:

a) The President of Mexico Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, in 2011 awarded Orchestra Mitote with the National Prize for Ecological Merit, the highest distinction in environmental matters in Mexico.

b) In 2009 and 2010 is selected by the Iberoamerican States Organization and the mexican Secretariat of Public Education to develop new Mitotes in extreme violent areas in Mexico.

c) Invited as a founding member of Art and Society Network, which specializes in social applications of the art, Spain 2008.

d) The United States-Mexico Trust for Culture awarded Mitote with the Coming Up Taller Award 2004, and ranks Mitote Orch. as one of the 10 most original and innovative projects from that contest. United States 2004.

e) The Mexican Music Council (COMUS), member of the UNESCO´s International Music Council (CIM), selects Mitote as representative of Mexico's proposal for the International Symposium on Musical Diversity in Uruguay in 2003. And also for the Panamerican Forum for Music Education and the Latin American and Caribbean Musical Tribune, México 2002

f) Mitote obtained the National Prize for Art Education 2001, awarded by the National Institute of Fine Arts and the National Council for Culture and the Arts.
